It can take a while for Google to index your site. You will be able to get further details of when the Google bot last visited your site to index it from withing your webmaster tools dashboard with Google. If it hasn't done it yet then it will be due to pay your site a visit if your site map has been accepted and you have verified your site correctly.

It took me a few weeks to get onto Google's blood veins but it does get there in the end.

Can I follow this up with asking how you get a site map onto google? I tried all the common variations sitemap.php, htm, xml, but the all come back with a error.

Thanks

The .php version has worked every time that I have used it. If you e-mail me the details of your site over I will sort it out for you.

Hi Julie,

Do you mean that Google hasn't indexed your site or that your site isn't coming up on results pages for specific search terms?

If it's the latter then maybe you need to optimise it a little more.

Perhaps you need to concentrate on different keywords, e.g. "Adult Dating" returns about 11,000,000 results which means you need to beat about 10,999,997 other pages to be in the top three, which is no easy task.

Another factor with the high volume keywords is time, you usually have to give it a few months or so before it ranks well and even then it also involves many, many factors.

Have a look for SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) articles/hints/tips and take your time. Read, read, read and digest, take on board what you are reading, most of it is common knowledge. After a while you will get the idea.

What is important though is that you act on what you learn, I'm as guilty as the next guy for reading things that make sense and would probably benefit me in the long run but I fail to act on it.

I could go on and on but there are already plenty of quality articles out there. Try somewhere like: http://www.wordtracker.com/academy/search-...ne-optimization

Oh, and if you have your site on a free sub-domain, then it'd rank better under your own domain name.

Vince.

p.s. it is possible to get visitors relatively quickly, I had traffic on some long tail keywords just three days after submission to Google. Not high volumes but traffic none the less, so although not easy it is possible if you put what you learn into practice.

You can check check how Google has indexed your site including submitting your site map using Google Webmaster Tools.
