I was thinking of ways of not only marketing my site, (I've just above covered most of the free methods), but also how to encourage free members to upgrade.

What I wanted to know is if it's possible to do a e-newsletter to all my members, promoting a "summer sale", with maybe a reduction on membership. Has anyone done this, and if so, how did they go about setting it up?

We have this already in place and quite a few webmasters already using it. Certain price plans can have discount codes added to (Plans 3 and above).
You can also add a message that will be included in the regular new members emails that are sent out to members. To set up discount plans email rob@diydating.com.
