Hi all, I have about 6-7 sites who have joined my exchange program, trouble is, after manually checking out all my banners on their sites, they all link back to the exchange page, shouldn't they be linking back to the 'mysite/region_main.php' ?

Hi zerox,

The exchange programs normally have to link to each other as many sites have spidering scripts checking that their link is on the page you entered. If the link is not on that page your link is removed, therefore we link it back to the exchange section.

We would not recommend linking to your region_main page as only logged in members can view this page. Anyone coming from a link exchange will not be logged in they will only get an message informing them of this.

I hope this has answered your query.

Hi charles,

My mistake, I actually meant the index page (logged out), with regards to the spidering scripts, point taken, just a shame they have to click our banners twice(once on thier page and once one our exchange page), I know our banners will always be on top but a potential customer might click someone elses banner on our exchange page leading them away from our site?

I know their banners are targeted to a new window and our exchange page would always be their behind the newly opened webby. So I'm safe, presuming they hadn't been hooked, lined and signed up by someone elses site. unsure.gif

wouldn't their spiders trace their banners on our site? and where they link to?

I would think they only care about their banners and their banners would be intact as uploaded by themselves?

your spiders would trace our banners and where they are linked too, is that not correct or am I tottally misunderstanding it lol

If you look at the top of your exchange page you will see that your own banner or text link will always remain at the top of your link exchange page and like wise on each page as your topsites grows and you will find that most topsites will only link back to your topsites and not your index page.

Hope this explains it a wee bit better for you.

Hi zerox,

Spiders used by exchange sites do not parse the entire site. In simple terms they just search through the page looking for a link to there own site. I hope the basic example below will clarify this for you.

You find linksite's exchange program.
You join linksite's program.
You upload your banner to linksite with the link back to your exchange - my-ex-page.
Normally linksite will then join to your exchange program.
After this linksite will check your my-ex-page for a link back to their page.

I hope this has helped you to understand the exchange system.

Please note that any sites joining your exchange program must be approved by you before they become visible.
