Hi Everyone.

It has come to our attention that a lot of webmasters on the system are using text input boxes linking to databases for storing e-mail addresses for the purposes of sending out e-mail newsletters.

Sites based in the UK wishing to include such features are required to be registered under the UK data protection act 1998, and display thier registration details beneath the text input box used to enter the information not held by us.

This is a legal requirement in the UK and our own data protection act ID does not cover 3rd parties (i.e. diy-dating webmasters).

Until UK Data protection act ID's are obtained and displayed, such text boxes will be removed from sites found to be using them.

Registration can be obtained at www.informationcommissioner.gov.uk

I haven't done this yet, but if we register could we be given the contact details of our own members. As far as the members are concerned they are registering with us and don't see diy-dating.com and may assume that we have access to this information.

In addition under the data act they have the right to request that we provide them with all the information that we store on them. As we don't have access to it shouldn't we be given this if we request it?

Registering is a formality so once done what information could we have access to and how would be obtain an up to date list? Perhaps you could add a new section to the website that only confirmed data protection registrants could so, so that we could access the information directly?

All the profiles registered through our system are covered by our registration and as such, only we have access to this information. We cannot pass this onto yourselves or anyone else.

If you have registered, then you can add your own subscribe option, so that you can gather email addresses yourself for marketing purposes. Please remember to include your registration number on the page that you are requesting information.
