Hi there,

Within the next few days we will be going live with SMS notification. As with the MMS this is a trial period for the service.

At the moment the SMS service will be used to send notifications to end users. To start off with any member who has signed up will receive daily SMS in regards to new messages they have received and another relating to the number of new profiles that have joined in their area.

The SMS messages will be sent out once a day between 9am and 10am.

Unlike the MMS services, when an end user has entered their phone number they must also send a confirmation SMS to us.

In order to opt out of the SMS service you must send an SMS message to the relevant phone number with the correct text body (please see web page for exact content once live).

If you do not want your site to utilise the SMS feature you can disable/enable the feature in the webmaster area on your 'site settings' page.

We will be launching some components for the layout editor containing promotional information about SMS services.

All feedback on this is welcomed.

I have added a section to the bottom of my index page (logged in) under where the profiles are generated promoting this.

Will we have feedback on how well the program is doing? biggrin.gif

Hi there,

We will report on the progress of the SMS & MMS services before the trial is up. I can give you some rough figures now.

We have over 650 members signed up to either sms or mms services.
We have received around 300 MMS messages (many containing multiple photos).
We send out a constantly growing number of SMS per day.
So far we have only had 2 people cancell their SMS notifications.

Ill give you some more stats when we get the first progress report.

Hi Charles,

How did the SMS trial go in the end? Good...bad...indifferent?

Hi JW,

We have had only 4 cancellations in total, however we have not had as many members join as we would of liked. At the moment we are retaining the service on an extended evaluation period.

As for the MMS, thats doing very well with over 2000 received and we will hopefully be keeping this service.

Hi,

Unfortunately we will no longer be offering the SMS notification service. After an elongated trail period we have found that the costs of running the service outweigh any financial gains seen from sending the messages.
