Hi everyone,

We have launched a new footer-toolbar which has been designed to make life easier for your members.
The bar has shortcuts to all of the major feature pages on your sites and also includes pop-up updates of new messages in member's inboxes and also new admirers that they have received.

Initial test this afternoon have been very promising so we have decided to go live.

Could you please check your sites and feedback any comments you may have.

We hope you like this new addition

Rob,
I'd have prefered that you had left the links at the top of the main logged in page for admirers and messages. It now takes more clicks to delete an admirer (unless I am missing something). In addition it does not work very well on Opera on a mobile phone. On a PC it all seems fine apart from the extra clicks mentioned above.
Google Chrome works too but I have not been able to test it on a mobile. I am sorry, I don't use Safari so someone else will need to help here. Any Apple book or phone users about?

Thanks for the feedback

The mobile phone issue is something we will be addressing shortly.

I can confirm that the bar is working fine in Safari on mac and pc and Opera.

Not sure what you mean about deleting admirers as members have always needed to click to go to the admirers page to delete these anyway and this can still be done from the regular logged in menu.

The bar is basically a replacement for the old notifications at the top of the screen which were becoming dated and untidy. You can now see the admirers directly from the bar (inside the pop-up menu) without having to load a new page (although you can go to the admirers.php page if you want to as well).

As I previously mentioned, all feedback appreciated (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I was suprised to see the toolbar on Mozilla. As I've got different toolbars as "roboform" and "bookmarksbar" on top of my screen using further toolbars makes my window smaller. I find it's great you've made a footer toolbar. It is very handy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

The toolbar that we are using on the logged in section of sites is different from the toolbars you refer to insofar as the bar is part of the web page as opposed to being part of the web browser interface.
The bar is designed to integrate well with web browser interfaces.

The beauty of having the bar as part of the page is they don't bother antivirus/spyware software as toolbars that are executable files can somethimes set of over sensitive security software even though most of them anre not malicious in any way.

So in a nutshell the toolbar is just an extra form of on-site navigation. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Have you logged in to your site as a member?

The bar is only displayed when a member is logged in.

Running a radio station and dating site we use lots of mobile phones and try to check pages with safari4 google chrome firefox and IE

Footer toolbar looks great as far as we can see on all our checks.

As for mobiles, this is a difficult issue.
I know, we have been writing apps for OPF Radio to stream live internet radio to mobiles for 12months.
We knew more than the o2 guru's when we spoke to them....lol
A very difficult area indeed.

iphone is web based and is not a problem with the footer toolbar.
samsung tocco and nokia 5800 has issues like other WAP browsers.
Yes, there is a big difference between wap and web base browsers.

Keep up the good work Rob.

Can you please e-mail the details over to me of the sites and browser combinations that you are experiencing problems on please and I will look in to the problem for you and provided the neccessary fixes.

We did notice a bug with sites that have edited templates and neglected to include a doc type in their html code but by and large we have not experienced any problems with it.

Regarding mobile browsers, we have disabled the bar on mobile user agents and will be providing an alternative solution for mobiles in the very near future that is more suited to the screen ratio of mobile devices.

Thanks for the e-mail, I have sent you over a reply.

If anyone else experiences any probelms with the bar please e-mail the team as soon as possible and we will look in to the matter for you.

We haven't had much in the way of negative feedback on this so far and it seems to working correctly on 99.9% of the sites on the network.

Is there any chance we can have an option to disable this toolbar please? In my opinion, it's intrusive and ugly, and doesn't fit in with the design of my site.

We have checked out your site matt and there seems to be a compatibility issue with your stylesheets which is leading to it not looking quite as good as it should do.
We are working on this at the moment.

We don't currently have any plans to add an opt out facility with the toolbar as it is intended to become an integral part of the logged in area.

Thus far it has proven to be popular with end users and the majority of webmasters that I have spoken to as well.

Also, my apologies for the delay in responding, I was away with a virus last week unfortunately.

All the best

Rob
