I've stumbled across a few places that can be helpful.
At http://perpetualprospering.com/earn/ you can submit your site to 125 search engines for free. If you'll join Ebay, if you haven't already, then do a simple search for "web sites", peruse the findings and you'll find a person there is selling the option of 700,000,000 links for a little under $5.00 U.S.. I've done both with the site I just opened up here but can't vouch for any returns for any of it as of yet. I've also Googled and found where some vendors will sell you hits to your site by using expired domain names as re-directions or utilizing pop unders to direct others to your site. I don't recommend pop unders as most folks use a popup blocker and it's underhanded anyway. The link redirection might give you one out of a thousand sign ups as the re-directions aren't targeted so that would have to be a judgment call. |

The link redirection might give you one out of a thousand sign ups as the re-directions aren't targeted so that would have to be a judgment call. I have tried many link exhanges over the years and they do not work for one simple reason, anyone with a good google rank and quality traffic is not willing to give any of that away and risk damaging their listings on meta-search engines, anyone who is listed therefore has no quality traffic to exchange. If you want to read up on some good basic SEO techniques and have some patience and your own domain, you will do far better to have a look at http://www.seochat.com/ and look out for the name Matt Cutts, he works for Google and is willing to help people by giving them information about how Google actually ranks sites http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/, there is no magic way to get #1 listing, no cheat or black art that will last more than a few weeks. If you want to really learn how to promote your website go to http://www.google.com/webmasters and get reading, its a science people. The reason why Google is so important is that 49.2% of the world search engine traffic goes through it! I am compiling an e-book on how to do it properly in plain english for less technical minded people but what you really need are quality links from established sites (not dating sites) and pay per click campaigns on google/bing (MSN) and Yahoo!, well maybe just one of them to start, google adwords is more tricky to budget for. Anything that promises fast results (or is written by Brad Callen) is crap and best left alone, be honest if you found a loophole to making thousands of pounds/dollars/euros would you tell all your competitors how to do it? Believe me I once did find a loophole (not with SEO or search engines) and made a lot of money from it, now that loophole is long closed and I wish I had re-invested the money I made from it! There is no fast track but with some research there is a right way to do it and it works and lasts. |

Thx for the reply neo.
I have my own domain and lemme know when you finish your ebook. As far as technical goes, the word is relative. I've built my last two boxes so I'm technically versed in hardware. I only run Linux and the distro's I run are considered advanced for those who are just getting into Linux or Unix. Therefore I'm technically somewhat advanced in that area as well. I'm just now starting to get into RubyOnRails so I dunno squat about building/maintaining a website, if I did I'd have built my own website from scratch to make it as unique a possible. Regards. |

Hi Windtalker, If you are well versed in command line stuff then you should get on well with HTML markup and css which is all you really need to have knowledge of as far as editing your site and getting it ready for SEO are concerned on our system. PHP and Ruby etc will benefit you in the long run with other sites you create though. Thanks to Neo as well for the previous insights! |

No, I'm no stranger to the cl.
Running Slackware, Arch and a few other "advanced" systems requires one to not be afraid to open a terminal or learn. html and bash commands are two different animals though. Just because I can $ ext3grep $IMAGE --superblock | grep 'size:' with bash doesn't mean I'll fully comprehend html for awhile, although I should pick it up faster than someone who has never opened a terminal. I installed a web developers toolbar and saw the seo does need a bit of work and I'll be pecking away at it along with making some changes within the site to make it stand out a bit. |
